Wander: Travels with My Sketchbook
Wander: Travels with My Sketchbook
In the past two years I have wandered freely with my sketchbook in the Bouddi National Park, NSW; hiked in rural Tasmania, and remote King Island in Australia; I have walked many steps along the SW coastal path in Devon and Cornwall and explored the wild heather strewn moors; I’ve seen the wonders of ancient Rome, olive groves, vineyards and medieval hilltop villages in Umbria and Le Marche, as well as the beauty of the Italian lakes; I have climbed through incredible fields of rock in the Burren, and perched on the edge of the Atlantic in an abandoned famine village in Co Kerry, Ireland; then revelled in the colours while island hopping in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean in the Sporades in Greece. I drew wherever I wandered. If I haven’t drawn it, I haven’t really seen it.
A sketchbook is a great place to try out ideas and to allow intuition to guide me. Each page is very experimental and I never know in advance where things might go. Now I'd love to share some of my wandering with you in my new book all about travel sketchbooks. You will see close ups of pages I have made, the different sketchbooks I have used and a selection of my hand made concertina books. I've included notes about what I did in the places I visited and what to take with you when you travel with a sketchbook. Full of tips and ideas and a chance to really see my usually private books, up close and personal.
